The game was different back then. Defense was played differently because offensive spacing. Judging players accross eras has always been a fools errand. Juiced up states makes it harder. It definitely puts a bit of an asterisk on earier eras. It doesnt mean the players back then weren't great, but it does bring up the question whether they were trying to make some players look better than they were. Try to artificially create legendary players, thus making them more marketable.

I never understood Kyrie being the most skilled argument yes he the best ball handler of all time I’ll concede that but comparing him to people like Kobe mike mj bird etc is insane to me(no that’s not in any order or all time ranking just names). Kyries shot diet consists almost entirely of tough shot making and that’s fine but most if not all time players can consistently hit tough shots when there on but when kyrie isn’t making tough shots he’s a liability on defense and for as great as a ball handler he is he is very questionable at making separation or getting easy looks for himself when he has capable defenders on him. These Celtics were the perfect example imo. I think people conflate skill with flash and it’s just not the same. I think it’s insane to even consider kyrie to be more skilled than someone like Larry bird let alone greater players all time just cause he’s a great ball handler and can hit tough shots when there is SO much more to being a skilled basketball player.
